The time has arrived! Are you as excited as I am??? 2013 Spring Mini Sessions are this weekend! I’m can’t wait to meet up with some friends, former clients and new!!! And I really can’t wait to share the results with you all!!! 😄😄😄
… and what TO wear for your Polka Dot Productions Shoot.
So, you’ve confirmed your shoot with PDP? YAY! Rest assured I am as excited as you! Okay, maybe a little more than you… Have I mentioned I LOVE my job?!?!? You obviously want to look your very best, but don’t know what you should wear? Well, you’ve come to the right place! 😉
The most important thing you can wear is confidence. So, wear what makes you comfortable! Now, guys, this does NOT mean you should wear your most comfy PJ’s and call it day. lol If modesty is a concern for you gals, keep in mind: I may be photographing you from above and below. You may be sitting, bending, laying… Just some things to consider. 😉 You don’t want to have to tug and adjust your clothes throughout the shoot. We’ll likely be moving a good bit in general so its important for you to focus on enjoying the moment and not being concerned about your clothes.
What about style?
Your photos should show your true self, so make sure whatever you wear reflects who you are, what you would normally wear. Personally, I dislike monotone, matchy-matchy family photos. You know the ones I’m talking about – “everyone wear white button downs and jeans… or *gasp* khakis!” Almost every family has a photo like this, and I hope I don’t hurt feelings here, but, in my opinion, it removes the personality from the photo… which is what makes your photo YOUR’S! So, grab some bright colors and bold prints and lets make some beautiful photos! For family or group photos, think “complimentary” vs. “coordinating”. I will say; it may be best to avoid super trendy things and logos as these can be distracting.
So, this really is down to personal taste and style. Unless you’re doing a super-glitzy, glam, red-carpet shoot, I tend to lean more towards “make-down” rather than “make-UP”. Super thick eyeliner, for example, doesn’t generally photograph well. Heavy foundation is another dislike… Make-up is meant to enhance the beauty you already have! A professional make-up artist is definitely recommended they know exactly where to put what to make you look your very best! A professional photo shoot is not something that happens every day of the week! This is a special event that you will be able to cherish for many years to come! Why not go the extra step to make sure you look your most amazing!
Newborn sessions are the exception! Basic is best! Clean, solid color (think soothing, but not necessarily “pastel”) tee with jeans or black pants work well.
Scroll down for some visual aids. 😀
For this group family shot, they each chose looks that matched their individual styles, but from similar color families so it flows…
For this engagement shoot, the couple chose (read: SHE chose lol) just a pop of green to tie in his green shirt… I think it works!
Also, notice her make-up… super flattering and just enough!
I really look forward to working together to create images your family will cherish for years to come!
When I shot this wedding, a little over 2 years ago, the couple asked that the photos not be used online. Thankfully, because photography has since become a business for me, they kindly agreed to allow me to use some of their photos so you all can see a little more of my wedding work. Thanks guys!!! With two people so beautiful (inside and out) its easy to see why I was so eager to share! 🙂 Not that I’m biased or anything 😉
I said “jump” and this gorgeous girl LITERALLY said “how high?”! 🙂
I can’t wait to share more of the photos from her amazing session (after she gets to see them all! 😉 )
